A Comparison of Car Rental Rates in the USA - Fall 2025
September 26, 2025
Long Beach, CA is the most expensive destination in the United States for renting a car this fall, according to a survey by Cheapcarrental.com.
The survey compared rental car rates at 100 U.S. airports during the period September to November 2025. At an average of $85 per day for the most affordable rental car, California's Long Beach Airport leads the rankings.
Joint second are Portland International Jetport in Maine, and St. Pete–Clearwater Airport, located north of the Floridian city of St. Petersburg, both at an average of $83 per day. Boise in Idaho ranks just behind at an average of $83 per day.
Overall, across all 100 airports considered in the survey, the average daily rental rate is $55.30 – a reduction of more than 15% compared to fall 2024. With a significant drop in car rental rates already recorded over summer 2025, this is another strong indicator of weakened travel demand this year.
The least expensive destination for renting a car this fall is Puerto Rico's San Juan, at an average of just $25 per day. Also at the more affordable end of the scale are the southeastern Florida destinations of Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, where you should find a car for well below $40 per day in all three cities.
The following table compares car rental rates in 100 destinations across the U.S. this fall. Prices shown reflect average rates for the most affordable rental car for the period September 1- to November 31, 2025.
About the Methodology
Rates were established in late August 2025, based on CarTrawler.com comparison technology. For each destination, the leading 10 car rental companies located at the airport terminal or the airport’s official rental center were identified. Rates include all taxes and fees.
