A Comparison of Car Rental Rates in the USA - Summer 2024

Anchorage, Alaska is the most expensive destination in the United States to rent a car this summer, according to a survey conducted by Cheapcarrental.com.

The survey compared rental car rates at 100 U.S. airports during the period from June to August 2024. At an average of $187 per day for the most affordable rental car, Anchorage's Ted Stevens Airport is leading the ranking.

2nd most expensive is Montana's Bozeman Yellowstone airport at $ 165 per day, while Baltimore (BWI) is completing the podium at a daily rate of $134 for the least expensive car. Also among the pricier destinations appear Boston, Chicago (O'Hare) and Detroit, with average rates well above $100 per day.

On average over all the 100 airports considered by the survey, the average daily rental rate is $82.50, an increase of around 3% compared to 2023. Significantly more expensive compared to last year are rental cars in Boston and Baltimore, up 37% and 46%, respectively. On the other hand, rates in Madison, WI and Dallas have dropped by more than 30%.

Least expensive destination to rent a car is Palm Beach, at an average of $43 per day. Also rather affordable are Miami, Fort Lauderale and Dallas (Love Field), where you should find a car around $50 per day.

About the Methodology
Rates were established in late June, based on the Cartrawler comparison technology. For each destination, the leading 10 car rental companies located at the airport terminal or the official rental center were considered. Rates include all taxes & fees.
